Near Carmel-by-the-Sea is the little town of Carmel Village. In this village, some of the homeowners have scratched out a small airstrip literally in their back yards. Carmel Valley Airport (062) is a private airfield (open to the public) composed of nearly 2000 ft. of worn-out asphalt and dirt. It’s a great place to fly in to.
What makes it even better is the fact that the airport is only 30 minutes by bus (the bus stop is only 100 yards from the runway) from Carmel-by-the-Sea. You can fly in, tie down, and be on the road in no time. People come out to greet you and look at your plane, talk about flying etc. They are great.
No fuel, no services, no nothing! Although we were able to scrounge a quart of oil for our Maule, don’t expect a fuel truck to meet you. Come with plenty of fuel to get home.
If you don’t feel like going all the way into town, there are great places within walking distance of the airport.
